This is the first of our Blogs. We though we'd share with you the church we plan to marry in. It's old, very beautiful and in Barrio Gotico, the heart of old Barcelona. More historical info Wikipedia (Spanish).
Mercé (Catalan), or Merced (Spanish) means "mercy", and refers to the medieval Madonna located inside the church. The present church is from XVIII century, but substituted another much older church. The Mercé Madonna gave name to a religious order (Wikipedia), specialized in redeeming captives and prisoners. Mercé (Catalan) or Mercedes (Spanish) is a popular (albeit old-fashioned) name for girls.
